The causal body
The sentence and the “how” are our words; between quotation marks, Her words, with their address.
The causal is what comes before the five elements and what they are made of: together with the Spirit it makes the soul; it acts through the centres on the body; in a realised soul it shows outside — fragrance, the glow, the cool breeze.
how it works
- First the causal, then the element. “first of all, the causal essences were created by Her” (807·§55, 20 February 1977); “He created first the causal of the elements then the elements out of the causal” (7276·§2, 26 August 1982).
- The causal of the five + the Spirit = the soul. “The causal of the five elements and the Spirit put together make the soul.” (302·§13, 25 July 1986)
- From the subtlest to the gross. “Then these causals act on the chakras and through the chakras these causals act on the other …on the grosser side.” (302·§7, 25 July 1986)
- What each element becomes in its subtle form:
- earth → “Fragrance is the causal of the Mother Earth” (5995·§98, 15 May 1982); “causal of the mother earth is perfume” (4718·§63, 10 July 1984);
- water → “What is the subtle of water is… which makes the skin, hard skin soft… that lustre, that nourishment” (4503·§11, 16 December 1998); “the coolness, curing power” (4503·§13);
- fire → “it is a very silent fire. It does not burn anybody but it burns all the wrong things within you” (4503·§12); “The essence of fire is the glow, “tejas”” (9915·§19, 18 June 1983);
- light → “The radiance is the subtlety of the light” (4503·§8); “the causal of light… is the glow” (4718·§64);
- air → “what is subtle of air is the “cool breeze” that you get… what we call vibrations” (4503·§10);
- ether (the sky) → “ether is the energy which is managed by another tanmatra, we call it akash” (19534·§25, 25 December 1998); “Or say, the causal of the ether. And through it, it communicates.” (1807·§11, 31 August 1990);
- at the Sahasrara, the five together → “when the Kundalini reaches Sahasrara… these five elements, we are made of, these vibrations gradually start breaking into the subtler form of which they are made” (4503·§7).
- The causal becomes aware. “all your five elements express in it's causal. But now the causal is aware, that's the only difference there is.” (4718·§64)
What She does not say
- “Causal body” in the singular: never in Her English voice; She says “the causal of the elements” (13654·§42), and twice “causal bodies” (1159·§5, 28 March 1991).
- Taste, touch and sound as the causals of water, air and ether: not in Her voice (only in other authors' books and an editor's bracket).
- For water, no one-word name: She says English “becomes little short of expressions” (4503·§11).
